General Information: The EHS Library/Media Center has approximately 15,000 books, 200 classroom sets, and a large number of other print and non-print materials, which are available to EHS students and faculty. The Library/Media Center is a new facility with many new resources. These include: fiction, nonfiction, and reference materials. Also, periodicals, vertical files, career and college materials.
Policy: The Library/Media Center is open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Monday through Friday when school is in session. Hall passes are required for
entrance into the Library/Media Center except during lunch periods, and before
and after school. Food and beverages are not permitted in any part of the library.
Locating Materials: The card catalog is an automated system which allows students and faculty greater ease in locating materials. The system consists of 28 search stations which allow users to locate materials by author, subject, title, call number, series, keyword, ISBN number, or Library of Congress Card Catalog number. All materials in the Library/Media Center are located by using the call number, which is located by using the automated card catalog system.
Borrowing Materials: Students may borrow materials for two weeks, and they may be rechecked as needed. Faculty may borrow materials for three weeks. Most reference materials may be checked out overnight.
Research Material: The EHS Library/Media Center provides access to over 110 periodicals through our new computerized periodical software, UMI Proquest Resource One/Full Text. We also subscribe to approximately 20 periodicals in paper form. The SIRS(Social Issues Resources Series) program is another research tool used in the Library/Media Center. It is designed to provide timely information on critical problems in our society. It provides access to hundreds of journals and newspaper articles. Find links to Research material here.
Reference Materials: Our reference collection is designated by "R" at the top of the call number on the spine of materials. We have four sets of Encyclopedias which include: Britannica (two sets), Academic American, and World Book. We also have three sets of encyclopedias available for checkout to students and faculty. We have numerous specialized reference materials.
Career and College Information: The career and college information is located in the North area of the Library/Media Center. We have access to career related books and ACT, SAT, PSAT, ASVAB, GED, TOFEL, and CLEP study guides. These may be checked out. We also have, as a result of the 1996 Senior Class, the Collegeview Computer Program. This program allows students to access information relating to colleges and universities, as well as, information on scholarships. Computers: The EHS Library/Media Center has 28 computers available for student, faculty. The programs available on the PC's include: Microsoft Office 97 which has: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; and Microsoft Works 3.0. Currently our four Power Macintosh computers are search stations. We also have Adobe PageMaker 6.0 and Claris Works. A new program has become available, through a telecommunications grant from the Oklahoma Legislature. It is called Infotrac Searchbank. It allows access to a great variety of resources through the Internet that are from reliable and professional journals, newspapers, and books.
EHS Library Media Center Computer Guidelines Access to EHS Library Media Center Computers is a privilege; it is not a right. This network is provided to faculty, staff, and students for Educational related communication and research. The following guidelines Will be followed by students 1. Students must show their student I.D. before they will be allowed to use
the computers.
Copy Service: A copier is available for student. Copies are ten cents per page. There are two microfiche readers and one copier. Microfiche copies are ten cents per page also.
Media Equipment: Media equipment can be checked out through the Library/Media Center Secretary, or Ms. Treadwell. Advance notice, if possible, of equipment use is greatly appreciated.
Library Use: The Library/Media Center is available for class use and this is done through a flexible schedule. Please see Ms. Treadwell for all Library scheduling.
Library Staff: There is one library assistant, Mrs. Jahrea Smith. Ms.
Janice Myattt is the Media Center Secretary. Ms. Patricia Treadwell is the Library/Media
Specialist. We are all here to assist students and faculty in the use of their
Library/Media Center. |
