Eisenhower Senior High School is one of the three public schools in Lawton, Oklahoma, and is located in West Lawton. Its mascot is the Bald Eagle, and its school colors are Colombia Blue, Red, and White. It was the second school built in Lawton. EHS opened in September of 1962 with 700 students in a building containing 48 rooms. In May of 1964, an auditorium was completed; and in 1965, the northwest wing was completed, providing the school with an additional 45 classrooms and capable of handling over 1900 students.
In the 2003-04 school year, EHS had 1,380 students with 112 faculty members. Its library contains approximately 16,000 volumes, not including textbooks. EHS is named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th president of the United States and chief military commander during World War II in the European Theater.
In 2006, construction began on a new wing that had 30 classrooms, and in 2007, the courtyard was closed and a new cafeteria was built. As of the 2007-08 school year, Eisenhower (commonly referred to by both its own students and the students of rival schools as IKE -Integrity, Knowledge, and Excellence as its theme) has a student body of approximately 1,400 students.
Eisenhower is also well known for academics. EHS has represented the state of Oklahoma for twelve years in the Academic Decathlon Nationals competition, having won the state competition for an entire decade. Students at EHS go on to attend many of the famous universities in the country, while many stay local to attend Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, University of Central Oklahoma, Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, or one of the military branches (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, & Coast Guard), or stay right on with the LPS as a coach or teacher!
