In band, students will study and perform music from several different genres and periods of music history. Active participation in rehearsals, small group or individual lesson attendance, and several performances outside of regular school hours/days are required, and the musical material will be of moderate to advanced difficulty. Although the primary focus of this course is performance, concepts of music theory will be addressed and band members must periodically complete written assignments and exams. The band is open to everyone in grades 9-12, but it is strongly recommended that students have at least one year of experience in middle school band or previous high school band experience.
